Gloria Ordaz

Noticias 23 Univision
Co-anchor

Gloria Ordaz is the co-anchor of the 11pm newscast for Noticias 23 Univision News in Miami. Ordaz is a four-time Emmy Award winner.

In addition to covering local news and events, she also hosts coverage for special events and collaborates with Univision’s national newscast and the news magazine show “Aqui y Ahora”.

Ordaz won her first Emmy in 2008 for a story that she covered dealing with female bail bonds agents. She received her second Emmy in 2009 in the category of “social concerns.”  In 2010 she won two Emmys; one for a report dealing with the effects of the “Special K” drug and the other for her tourism coverage of Guatemala.

One of her first assignments as a news reporter was when she clandestinely traveled to Cuba - without government permission - to report and investigate on the lack of Internet access on the island.  In this report she snuck hidden cameras into so-called cybercafés and stores to uncover how Cuban citizens are denied the ability to access the Internet or purchase computer hardware.  The report was entitled, “Guerilleros en la Red”

Ordaz began her career as a journalist at America TeVé in 2003.  In 2006 she joined Univision WLTV 23 as a news reporter and then became the weekend news anchor a year later. Since February, 2016, Ordaz is co-anchoring the 11pm newscast.

Ordaz was born and raised in Cuba and came to the United States in 1998.   She has a bachelor degree in Mass Communications and Journalism with a minor in International Relations plus a Certificate in Latin American Studies and the Caribbean, from Florida International University.  For her graduation ceremony, Ordaz was selected as a World Ahead Student by FIU President Mark Rosenberg. Gloria earned an executive certificate in leadership from Smith College.   She also earned a certificate in broadcast journalism at the University of Miami and an associates degree in Mass Communications from Miami Dade College.

Ordaz is an active supporter of St. Jude’s Hospital’s Young Professionals, the American Cancer Society and Family Aids Coalition.
