Roberto Vizcon

Roberto Vizcon is now the News Director for the Univision Network owned and operated station in Miami, Florida.  Before that, he was the News Director for the Univision Station in Puerto Rico.  He was also the Executive News Producer for WFUN TV, Channel 41, America TeVe, in Miami, Florida.  Previously, he was the General Manager of WGEN TV, Channel 8, the Caracol Network affiliate in Miami.  In that capacity he ran the day to day operations of the channel and managed the 80 member plus staffers. He has been in the broadcasting industry for over 35 years. He was also the General Manager of WTMO-TV, the Telemundo network affiliate in Orlando, Florida.

While in Orlando, Vizcon launched the local 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscast while continuing the station's commitment to a weekly 30 minutes public affairs/magazine show. The station was a leader in the Hispanic community and it heavily engaged in grass roots efforts, sponsoring over 30 yearly events in Central Florida.

Vizcon’s pride and joy was his job as News Director of WSCV-TV, Channel 51; Telemundo Network’s owned and operated station in Miami for almost 15 years, where he helped shape the first NBC/Telemundo duopoly in the nation. In said position he was responsible for creating and overseeing the daily operations, production, and editorial content of the station’s early morning, Noon, 6 and 11 PM newscasts, as well as its 4 weekend editions. Prior to that, he was the Executive News Producer for the station.

Throughout more than three decades, Vizcon has worked in numerous capacities including as a producer with WQBA Radio, WLTV-TV, Channel 23, the Univision Network, WTVJ-TV, Channel 6, all in Miami.  He also worked as a news producer for WINK-TV, in Fort Myers, Florida and for WCMH-TV, in Columbus, Ohio.

Vizcon is the 2013 recipient of the prestigious Silver Circle Award, NATAS’s recognition of a successful broadcaster with over 25 years of service in the industry.  He is also the recipient of an Emmy Award for News Excellence in 2013 and of another Emmy award for News Series Producing in 2002.  He has two additional Emmy award nominations for News Oriented Specials and News Series Reporting.  He has an Outstanding Achievement and Honorable Mention award for Best Producer, Newscasts from United Press International. He twice received the Best Newscast Award from the Latin American Critics and Commentators Association.   Vizcon received the Communicator of the Year award from St. Thomas University in Miami in 2001.
